Make Your Own Fly Spray

I was given a great recipe for home made flyspray. I tried it, and it works! I always feel bad spraying the horses with such strong chemicals, and the natural ones never seemed to work, until now.

Here is the recipe:

1-cup Avon SSS (Skin So Soft) bath oil
1-cup white vinegar 1-cup (or more) water
5 cc of essential oil of citronella (from the health food store NOT the type you burn to keep insects away that is available in a drug store)
Mix in a spray bottle.

It smells nice too. Which isn't something I usually say about fly spray.

If you don't already have your own Avon lady, you can use mine. Ann-Margaret not only sells Avon, but happens to be one of my riding students. You can order SSS online at her Avon Website She found this nifty recipe at Kitchen Crafts & More There are a lot more uses for Avon's Skin So Soft on horses and other animals.

I will have to give that a go. The flies have been laughing at my current brand.

You're welcome! Anything to make our horse lives easier right?

Be sure to test a spot on your horse and measure and mix carefully. My horse broke out in hives because of citronella.

Good Point. You should spot always test anything that goes on your horses coat.

You can also substitute the citronella with white vinegar.
